At Eccles Sixth Form College we have excellent laboratory facilities and equipment which enables students to fully develop their scientific skills and knowledge. We offer both Level 2 and Level 3 Applied Science courses alongside our Vocational A-Level Applied Science course.
The Applied Science courses are all intended to be qualifications for post-16 students wanting to continue their education through applied learning and who aim to progress to higher education and ultimately to employment. Applied Science students acquire substantial cross sector scientific knowledge and practical scientific skills, including carrying out practical laboratory tasks, planning investigations, collecting, analysing and presenting data, and reviewing and refining the methodology of practical and laboratory-based work. The courses are all assessed through both internal knowledge and skill assessments and external assessments. The applied science units we deliver are diverse and wide ranging, including, for example topics in biomedical, forensic, physical and chemical sciences.
We deliver GCSE, level 2 and level 3 science as vocational qualifications. Many of our students have gone on to study degrees in engineering, aerospace engineering, pharmacology, and biomedical science. We have excellent success rates recently 87% of students attaining high grades (merit/ distinction). We are a Centre of Excellence for World Skills and integrate competition in the classroom, our students are well prepared for university as we focus on autonomous techniques, research and evidence-based practice that set them up perfectly for degree level study.
Students at Eccles Sixth Form College follow many progression routes to the career they want to pursue. 70% of students go on to study at university or higher-level qualification. 18% gain course related employment and 12% go on to an apprenticeship.
Our state-of-the-art facilities are based within a spacious, green environment set in a leafy residential area. They include a Football Association (FA) approved 4G AstroTurf pitch, an industry standard gym and a sports performance laboratory. These facilities give our students the best chance to flourish in their chosen sector.
Eccles Sixth Form College offers an extensive range of vocational subjects, specialised careers advice and a comprehensive programme of support and personal development so that all students can flourish both academically and as individuals.
Equivalent to three A-Levels, T-Levels mean that students will spend 80% in the classroom and 20% on placement to give them a head-start in finding their dream career. This two-year qualification combines classroom and work placement together on a course designed for both employers and businesses.
At Eccles Sixth Form College, we offer six different levels of education. Ranging from Pre-Entry level courses to honours degrees, students can work at the level that best fits them.
Students studying on the sport course at Eccles Sixth Form College work alongside some of the best sports teams in the area. We work in partnership with The Manchester United Foundation to give our sports students a range of educational programmes and set up charitable projects for the youth of greater Manchester. The Salford Red Devils are a professional rugby league club that help students take part in sessions and games hosted at the AJ Bell stadium.
We have established excellent working partnerships with local and national employers so students can gain valuable industry insight and be prepared for their next steps. The College has a highly successful partnership with Manchester United and has developed successful male and female football teams.
