City Skills, part of Salford City College has been placed within the top 10% of colleges nationally for achievement rates. If that’s not reason enough to study at the college, here are 10 further reasons to study at City Skills:

The college has a rich history of success across all qualifications. Last year they secured an incredible 100% Advanced Vocational pass rate with a great percentage of high grades achieved.

The college pride themselves on their Centre of Excellence in Construction and Engineering as well as their incredible facilities. In recent years, the college has invested substantially in creating real-life working environments to best prepare students for employment. They have an exceptional, accredited BPEC Gas Training Centre, an accredited Whirlpool Training Centre, and are the only Worcester Bosch Gold Linked College in Greater Manchester.
If its brickwork you’re interested in studying, the college has its very own, dedicated workshop to get hands-on and practical. Likewise, if you are looking at training in plumbing or electrical, specialist, fully stocked workshops will be where you’ll spend your time at college.
Perhaps you fancy your hand at painting and decorating? Again, you’ll be in your own, spacious workshop set up especially for training and fieldwork.
5) Embrace the High-tech, Fully Equipped Motor Vehicle Workshop
Earlier this year City Skills opened their incredible, brand-new, motor vehicle workshop to support students on the motor vehicle studies course.
The new workshop, which is fully stocked with quality tools of the trade, thanks to a unique partnership with Snap on Tools, is also supplied with cars for students to work with. This year already has proved to be a truly wonderful facilities for those who have has the opportunity to utilise it.
The workshop was opened by very special guest, Roy Cavanagh MBE, from Seddon. Roy shared a few words in support of the new training facilities, he said: “The motor vehicle workshop is a real, major plus for Salford as it’s vital that young people get proper training, and these facilities will help give them a real chance.
“The college is a vibrant part of the great City of Salford and this particular building shows that. It is quite amazing to see and a real credit to all the people who have worked on it.”

7) Excellent Industry Links
If you choose to begin your career in construction or engineering at City Skills, you’ll be taught by the best. Staff have extensive technical experience and well-established industry links with partners across the region.
Anyone wanting to study hair and beauty will have the chance to hear from guest speakers and attend masterclasses from some of the best in the business including MAC Cosmetics and Illamasqua.
Earlier this year motor vehicle students heard from Power Maxed Racing professional regarding how to get into the industry, and construction and multi-trade students often hear from professional and business owners to help them further their careers.
8) Expert Staff
Whatever the course, staff at City Skills are the best in the business.
All of the college’s staff are fully trained, dedicated, experienced trades people with many years of professional experience to ensure success. In fact, staff in the Construction and Engineering Department have over 600 years combined industry experience, with one teacher having even worked on the construction of Disneyland Paris and who is now working on developing national, technical qualifications.
On top of this, Karen Kaya, Head of Hair and Beauty, has worked in colleges training individuals for more than 15-years and has even helped develop the first HND media make-up course in the country.
She is a highly trained specialist with a range of qualifications and business experience under her belt. Further to this, Karen has been heavily involved in the competition world. From winning awards as a junior hairdresser, to becoming part of the British Hairdressing Federation’s Hairdressing Squad, competing around the world.
For this role, Karen has to sit exams every 18-months to ensure she is on top of her game, and as a result, for the last seven years, she has represented the UK in Moscow, Vienna, Brussels, Seoul, Chicago and Paris. In September 2017 she attended the World Hair and Body Painting Championships in Paris as a judge and in 2016 she won a medal of excellence for her judging professionalism at the OMC Hairworld Championships.
9) Endless Extra-curricular Opportunities
Opportunities at City Skills are endless. Even those that extend outside of curriculum.
