Organisations from across the construction sector came together at Salford Lads’ and Girls’ Club to highlight career opportunities for women in construction—both in Salford and across the UK.
As part of Salford City College’s celebrations for International Women’s Day, we hosted an event inviting women from the community to explore their potential futures in the construction industry. With leading employers such as Travis Perkins, Cara Brickwork, and Connolly Ltd in attendance, the event provided valuable insights, hands-on experiences, and expert guidance for young people and adults alike.
Showcasing Career Opportunities
The event featured an engaging mix of practical demonstrations and career insights from industry professionals. Attendees had the chance to experience woodworking demos, explore student artwork from our City Skills campus, and interact with representatives from both local and national construction firms. This hands-on approach allowed participants to fully immerse themselves in the possibilities of a career in construction.

Beyond the demonstrations, the event served as an invaluable networking opportunity. Women aspiring to enter or progress within the industry connected with employers, gained expert advice, and learned about adult education courses that could serve as a springboard for their careers.
Supporting Women’s Futures
Whether taking their first steps or advancing further in their careers, attendees discovered the wealth of support available to women in construction. With such a diverse range of roles in the industry, continuous learning, networking, and professional growth are essential at every stage of a career.
Salford City College is proud to champion the success of women in construction and to support students on their educational and career journeys. Events like these not only inspire the next generation but also celebrate the resilience and achievements of women shaping the future of the industry.
