Enrolment 2020

Enrolment Update

We are currently in the process of formulating plans for enrolment. We anticipate the enrolment will run for an extended period to ensure that everyone can enrol in a safe, organised way that adheres to the current social distancing measures and government guidance.

We will communicate further information relating to enrolment in due course, via email, text message, the College website www.salfordcc.ac.uk/enrol and on the College social media channels

In the meantime, if you have any questions relating to enrolment, please do not hesitate to contact us on 0161 631 5050 or at enrol@salfordcc.ac.uk

We are pleased that you have decided to apply to the College and look forward to welcoming you to enrolment.

As a student at the College, you are at the heart of everything we do. Our simple ambition is that you are happy and fulfilled while achieving your aspirations during your valuable time with us. We pride ourselves in our success in ensuring that students have the opportunities and resources to excel academically across all of our courses, and we look forward to supporting you to flourish during your time with us.

If you have not yet attended an admissions interview for the College or taken part in a telephone interview with a member of our School Liaison and Admissions Team, do not worry. Please contact our Admissions Team on 0161 631 5050 or at admissions@salfordcc.ac.uk, and they will be able to arrange this for you. If the course you have applied for requires an audition, our Admissions Team will be able to inform you of our alternative audition arrangements.

Virtual New Students’ Day and Pre-Enrolment Learning

Usually, we would hold a New Students’ Day for our prospective Year 12 students. This event would have taken place at the College at the beginning of July and provided you with an opportunity to sample lessons in your chosen subjects while experiencing life as a student at our College.

Unfortunately, as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, we made the decision not to hold these events at the College and have instead made available a virtual New Students’ Day experience for you to access from the comfort and safety of your home. I hope that this resource provides you with a brief introduction to life at the College, and you find the information both useful and interesting.

To best prepare you for your academic studies at College, before enrolment, we have put together pre-enrolment resource packs. These resources will give you an understanding of the skills and techniques you will be developing while studying with us. Please try to work through these packs and bring this work and anything you have created along to enrolment. If you need any support in accessing our Year 11 resource packs, please contact our Admissions Department on 0161 631 5050 or at Admissions@salfordcc.ac.uk.

College Bursary & Bus Service Applications

College Bursary & Free College Meal Applications

The 16-18 Discretionary Bursary is for students aged 16-18 who struggle financially with the cost of attending College. If your household income (all adults that live in their home who have financial responsibility) is less than £30,000 before tax, then your son/daughter may be eligible to receive up to £8.00 per week. This is based on 100% attendance on College premises. Where remote learning is taking place, the amounts may differ.

To qualify, your son/daughter must be living in the UK and have lived here for at least three years before the course starting and be aged 16, 17 or 18 at the end of August 2020.

Additionally, if your son/daughter is aged 16-18 and your household income of less than £16,000 per year (including benefits, pensions, salary and child tax credits), then they may be eligible to receive a free college meal to the value of £2.41 per day (in a single visit) to the refectory.  This is only applicable to the days your son/daughter is timetabled in College and to a maximum of four days per week. Students are NOT eligible for a free college meal if their household receives Working Tax Credits.

Apply for the College Bursary or Free College Meals

If you have any questions about applying for the College Bursary, our friendly and supportive Student Services Team is available to support you. Please call us on 0161 631 5000 for more information.

College Bus Service Applications

Our College Bus Service is a safe, reliable and quick way for your son/daughter to travel to College. Places are strictly limited, and therefore permits are issued on a first-come-first-served basis. The service costs £20.00 per Term.

As a result of Covid-19, social distancing has significantly reduced public transport capacity nationally. However, government guidance outlines that students on dedicated services do not mix with the general public on these journeys and tend to be consistent. This means that the advice for passengers on public transport to adopt a social distance of two meters from people outside of their household or support bubble, or a ‘one meter plus’ approach where this is still not possible, will not apply on dedicated services from the autumn term.

Arrangements for Enrolment

This year, enrolment will commence from Thursday 20th August and will run for an extended period to ensure that everyone can enrol in a safe, organised way that adheres to social distancing measures and government guidance.

Additionally, to ensure that everyone can enrol at the College before we commence teaching, the autumn term will begin on Monday 7th September 2020.

The College Admissions Department has now emailed all applicants to inform you of our enrolment arrangements in more detail and provide you with your specific enrolment appointment. If you have not received your enrolment appointment, please contact us on 0161 631 5050 or at Enrol@salfordcc.ac.uk, and we will arrange an appointment for you.

To ensure that everyone can enrol in a safe, organised way that adheres to social distancing measures and government guidance, it is essential that you only visit the College on the dates and times provided by the Admissions Department. If you need an alternative appointment time, please email the College at Enrol@salfordcc.ac.uk

For enrolment, can you please bring the following with you:

  • Your GCSEs and any other examination results: these are important if you are to enrol on the right course. If you do not have them with you, you may have to collect them and then return to College to complete your enrolment.
  • Your Passport or Birth Certificate, together with your National Insurance Number: (if you have this).

We offer courses at all levels and in a wide variety of subjects. We are confident that we have a course that is right for you. If you do not get the GCSE grades that you were hoping for, please do not worry, there will be staff and members from the College Careers Team who will be able to give you advice and guidance about all of the courses available at the College.

If you are a care leaver or a looked after student, we would like to know so that we can ensure that you get the additional support that will help you at College. Please contact our Student Services Team on 0161 631 5000.

If you have received additional learning support at school, there will also be the opportunity for you to meet with our Additional Learning Support Team at enrolment and they will be able to talk about how we can continue to support you at College.

GCSE Results
Since the Secretary of State for Education announced that the 2020 GCSE exams in England would be cancelled to help fight the spread of Coronavirus, the Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation (Ofqual) have worked at speed to develop a process which fairly recognises students’ work and makes sure you get your grades ready for enrolling at College. More information about this can be found on the Ofqual website.

When GCSE grades are issued, you will be able to work with the College Admissions Team to ensure that you are on the right course, at the right level.

Plans for Teaching Delivery
At the University Centre at Salford City College, we understand that you want to know precisely what teaching and learning is going to look like in September and completely appreciate your need for this information. Please rest assured that providing you with a hands-on, practical, and engaging learning experience is at the forefront of our planning and something that we value at the University Centre. Consequently, we are striving to create an environment that ensures the safety of our staff and students while maintaining hands-on learning in the ‘new normal’.

As you can appreciate, timetabling while ensuring physical distancing is a significant challenge for all Higher Education providers. We want to ensure that we get this right. Due to the nature of our smaller class sizes, we expect to be able to accommodate face-to-face teaching and learning for the majority of our classes. In the unlikely event that we are unable to facilitate face-to-face delivery, we will provide digital remote sessions to complement our onsite classes.

Getting Back on Campus
We are commencing a slow, phased reopening of our facilities to ensure that all of our facilities are ready for the return to teaching and learning in September. The safety of our staff and student community is at the forefront of our planning, and we want to ensure that we can successfully adhere to the latest government guidance and social distancing measures. As you will appreciate, the advice is frequently changing, and we are working to this as and when information becomes available, implementing the required changes that are necessary.

Please appreciate that this is an evolving situation and we do not have all the answers that you need right now, but we are working day and night on everything that we need to solve by September. We are confident that we will have the systems, processes, and infrastructure in place to give you the best chance of succeeding and achieving while studying with us. We want to ensure that you get the most out of your time studying at the University Centre.

Arrangements for Enrolment & Registration 2020
We anticipate that registration will commence from 14th September 2020 and that teaching will commence on 28th September 2020. We will contact you with further details for registration and induction prior to this date. Please do ensure to keep your contact information up to date. In the meantime, if you have any queries relating to commencing your course at the University Centre at Salford City College, please contact us on 0161 631 5050 or at HEAdmissions@salfordcc.ac.uk.
