Lead Adult Care Worker

Outline

Lead Adult Care Workers are the frontline staff who help adults with care and support needs to achieve their personal goals, and live as independently and safely as possible, enabling them to have control and choice in their lives. In addition, Lead Adult Care Workers have responsibility for providing supervision, frontline leadership, guidance and direction for others, or working autonomously, exercising judgement and accountability.

The Lead Adult Care Worker will be required to learn to meet the following knowledge, skills and behaviours:

Knowledge

Apprentices will know and understand:

• The job they have to do
• Their main roles and responsibilities
• The importance of having the right values and behaviours
• The importance of communication
• How to support individuals to remain safe from harm
• How to champion health and wellbeing for the individuals they support and work colleagues
• How to work professionally, including their own professional development of those they support and work colleagues

Skills

Apprentices wiill be able to:

• Carry out the main tasks and responsibilities according to their job role
• Treat people with dignity, respect, and honour their human rights
• Communicate clearly and responsibly
• Support individuals to remain safe from harm
• Champion health and wellbeing for the individuals they support
• Work professionally and seek to develop their own professional development
• Behaviours

Apprentices will:

Work consistently, showing care, compassion, courage, communication, competence, and commitment

Assessment

Elements of learning can be face-to-face tutorials by visit or remote digital means, directed study and research, learning in the workplace via practical demonstration, shadowing, instruction, simulation, or by way of courses and reflection.

Assessment methods may include Q&A, work products, observation of practice, witness accounts, and recognition of prior learning.

Mandatory Qualifications

• Level 3 Diploma in Adult care
• Functional Skills Level 2 in English (unless previously achieved)
• Functional Skills Level 2 in maths (unless previously achieved)
• Care certificate

End Point Assessment

Apprentices are required to undertake an end point assessment consisting of:

• A situational judgement test (60 questions using real work scenarios, graded pass/merit/distinction)
• A professional discussion (45 minutes, informed by prior learning and experience, and supporting evidence submitted, including statements from the apprentice, manager and individuals)
  

Entry Requirements

• English and maths – Level 1
• Apprentices must be in suitable employment and have the opportunity to develop the required knowledge, skills and behaviors aligned to this apprenticeship standard.
