Construction Quantity Surveying Technicians are associated with the monitoring and control of costs and contracts on construction projects, and are based on sites or in offices.

The main duties of a Construction Quantity Surveying Technician include assisting senior managers with budgeting, control of cost, selection and management of specialist contractors, mitigation of disputes, recording, control and reporting of income and expenditure, valuation of progress, and assisting with legal and contractual issues.

This apprenticeship standard also includes a Level 4 HNC in Construction and the Built Environment (Construction).

Assessment

Apprentices will attend college on a day release basis at FutureSkills at MediaCityUK, Dakota Avenue, M50 2PU, where knowledge will be developed via taught sessions, online learning and self-study. The HNC units to be delivered are:

  • Construction Technology
  • Science and materials
  • Construction practice and management
  • Construction information
  • Legal and statutory responsibilities in construction
  • Individual project
  • Principles of alternative energy
  • Principles of refurbishment

Portfolio of Evidence 

A portfolio of evidence will be developed by the apprentice with the support of the assessor. This portfolio will confirm the knowledge which has been developed, the skills which are regularly applied in the workplace and the behaviors demonstrated to be a successful construction site supervisor.

End Point Assessment

Apprentices are required to undertake end point assessment. This will be an online knowledge test, an agreed project, and a professional discussion to demonstrate the knowledge, skills and behaviors developed over the programme.

Mandatory Qualifications

  • Level 4 HNC in Construction and the Built Environment (Construction)

Entry Requirements

  • A previous Level 3 construction-based apprenticeship. For example – Technical and Professional Advanced Level Apprenticeship.
  • Candidates with a minimum of two A levels will be considered. 
  • English and maths – level 2

Apprentices must be in suitable employment and have the opportunity to develop the required knowledge, skills and behaviors aligned to this apprenticeship standard. Assessments will be carried out with employers to determine suitability.
