Typical job titles for this role can include: Assistant Project Engineer, Assistant Engineer or Building Services Site Technician. In the case of SME building services engineering specialist contractors, the roles are likely to include Assistant Project Manager, Project Managers and Site Managers. 

 

The main duties of a Building Services Engineering Technician include supervision of the installation of environmental technologies, assisting design teams with building services engineering solutions on construction projects, supervision of specialist contractors, control of health and safety, recording, control and reporting of progress, minimisation of environmental impact, controlling quality of work and ensuring compliance with contractual conditions. 

 

This apprenticeship standard also includes a L4 HNC in Construction and the Built Environment.

 

Assessment

Apprentices will attend college on a day release basis where knowledge will be developed via taught sessions, online learning and self-study.  

 

Portfolio of evidence – a portfolio of evidence will be developed by the apprentice with the support of the assessor. This portfolio will demonstrate the skills which have been developed and are regularly applied in the workplace including the behaviors demonstrated to be a successful building services engineering senior technician. 

 

End Point Assessment – apprentices are required to undertake end point assessment. This will be a set project brief, a written report, a presentation and a structured interview to demonstrate the knowledge, skills and behaviors developed over the apprenticeship. 

Entry Requirements

  • Previous level 3 construction or building services based apprenticeship. For example – Technical and Professional Advanced Level Apprenticeship or Level 3 Heating and Ventilation Framework or standard. 
  • English and maths at Level 2
  • Apprentices must be in suitable employment and have the opportunity to develop the required knowledge, skills and behaviors aligned to this apprenticeship standard. Assessments will be carried out with employers to determine suitability.
