Pendleton beat Rosall School 3-1 to close the gap on top place

Midfielder: Amidou Kone

Due to an excellent cup run the Pendleton side find their selves second in the league but with games in hand that will see them go top. This weeks game saw them face off against third in the league, Rosall School. A loss for the home side would see them stay second but go only on goal difference, meaning the push for back to back league titles would be all that more difficult.

The game started in excellent fashion, the Pendleton team played on minimal touches and moved the ball through the thirds effectively and with lightening fast pace. Team top scorer Alfa Duru timed a run on the half way line to beat the Rossall offside trap and drove with the ball into the opposition box, he squared the ball to forward Andrew Kwao but the Rosall centre back managed to poke a last ditch challenge and deny Kwao a goal, fortunately for Duru the clearance dropped to his feet and he calmly lofted the ball into the top right corner. The rest of the half played out relatively quietly but mistakes from the Pendleton side gave the Rossall forwards hope that there were still points to be gained from the game.

Those mistakes proved pivotal in the second half, with the Rosall midfield jumping on a stray pass minutes into the half and regaining a goal to take the game to 1-1. First year midfielder Amidou Kone is going strength to strength on the pitch, his performance in the cup against Kirklees was his peak performance and he carried on that form this week. From the minute he entered the field the game calmed down and the Pendleton side started to dominate. Tomiwa Effunuga scored a typical forwards goal, bending the ball into the bottom right corner from the edge of the box. Kone also got onto the score sheet for the second week in a row, driving the ball low and hard into the bottom corner to take the game to a comfortable 3-1.
