Salford City College Group is thrilled to announce that we have been chosen as finalists in the 2022 Educate North Awards, which celebrates outstanding work in higher and further education, in the following categories:

Business/ Industry Collaboration Award

Greater Manchester, like many areas across the UK, has suffered from significant local authority funding cuts. In partnership with Salford City Council and Tameside Council, SCC Group launched the Public Sector Leadership Development Programme, designed to develop the skills of aspiring, middle and service level managers to explore both the challenges and opportunities of developing relationships between public services and communities in finding new and better ways to deliver services.

The programme content was designed in consultation with the councils to ensure their training offers leaders the skills they need to respond to their changing environment, deliver outstanding service and model values-based leadership.

Mental Health & Wellbeing Award

Responsive to the needs of the diverse student groups and their families, staff and external agencies, across our five campuses, Salford City College devised a mental health strategy that sought to improve outcomes and focus on improvements in emotional literacy and common vocabulary used by and shared, with students, employers, parents and local services.

Through activities and initiatives in tutorial sessions and in the wider colleges, students that are neuro-diverse, in the care of the local authority, are supported by Children’s Services, affiliate themselves to the LGBTQ+ community, and/ or have attracted the pupil premium through school, are supported by this strategy.

Social Mobility Award

SCC Group is committed to preventing young people who are currently moving through the education system from becoming NEET and ensuring that a suitable provision is available for students in order to meet their individual learning needs. Consequently, we have developed a bespoke Widening Participation Programme which endeavours to incorporate creativity and personalised techniques to inspire and engage with hard-to-reach young people.

Our priority is to ensure that these young people feel both supported and empowered to continue their educational journey and prevent them from becoming NEET.

Student Experience Award

SCC Group's Aspire Programme benefits students with a broad range of learning difficulties and complex needs. These students have significant barriers to accessing further education and require specialist provision to support their needs and facilitate their development and progression.

Offering tailored pre-transition for students to excel, the Aspire Programme assists students in achieving their dreams, nurturing talent in a safe, fully inclusive and supported setting. The initiative provides educational opportunities for students with diverse needs and backgrounds, many of whom may have previously attended specialist provision, or have had a history of school refusal, and need support to access provision in an open college setting.

The Educate North Awards is a prestigious awards event. We look forward to celebrating our nominations on 7th April 2022, recognising and sharing best practices and excellence in the education sector in the North.
