Kizito Brady, an apprentice on Salford City College Group’s Highways Maintenance programme, had his achievements recognised at the LCRIG Dft Special Recognition Apprenticeship Awards. Marking a brand new category of awards at the LCRIG Innovation and Learning Festival, this event saw more than 50 apprentices attend supported by the sponsors to create a special evening for those in attendance.  

Kizito has shown consistently high standards of work and excelled in his role, showing huge progress over the course of his apprenticeship. While studying at the City Skills Highways Maintenance Academy, Kizito has been working for Bolton Council. With consistently fantastic feedback from his manager and colleagues, he has worked in a wide range of teams to gain diverse experience in the field.  

This award, the Level 2 Apprenticeship Award, is a recognition of Kizito’s remarkable resilience, dedication and skill in his role on the Highways team. He embraced every opportunity to learn and grow. LCRIG is the Local Council Roads Innovation Group, a unique platform dedicated to continually improving local roads across the country. 2025 marks the first year that the DfT Special Recognition Awards.  

The Highways Maintenance Academy, part of the Salford City College Group Apprenticeships, trains the next generation of road maintenance professionals. This vital industry ensures that we all have safe roads, and in partnership with organisations such as LCRIG, focuses on constantly finding ways to improve and update road rules and safety.
