Outline

Equivalent to an ‘A’ level, this Team Leader or Supervisor apprenticeship reflects the importance of supporting front-line managers, to help them develop the skillset for leaders in any business and can include the Institute of Leadership & Management (ILM), Level 3 diploma in Leadership and Management.

A Team leader or Supervisor is typically a first line management role, with operational or project management responsibilities, or someone who has responsibility for managing a team by providing direction, instructions and guidance to ensure the achievement of a clearly defined set of outcomes.

Working within a range of businesses in either the public, private or third sectors, specific responsibilities will vary, but the knowledge, skills and behaviours needed as a team leader will typically be the same, whatever the role.

It will support individuals from the private, public or third sector, and from all sizes of organisation, who want to develop their leadership and management skills.

Key responsibilities are also likely to include supporting, managing and developing team members, managing projects, planning and monitoring workloads and resources, delivering operational plans, resolving problems, and building relationships internally and externally.

Working with our experienced Management Associates, as part of the Apprenticeships at Salford City College team, this apprenticeship has been designed to ensure first line managers develop the effective management and leadership skills they need to support the development of their business. This includes individuals who are at the start of their career, taking their first steps into management.

It will typically take up eighteen months to complete, although the exact duration will be dependent on the previous experience of the individual. Upon completion, apprentices will understand different leadership styles and the benefits of coaching to support people and improve performance.

Those undertaking this apprenticeship will need to be in a role that allows them to apply and develop the newly learned knowledge and skills and behaviours to ensure the requirements of the apprenticeship are met.

There are no formal minimum entry requirements to join the programme; these are typically set by the employer.

Anyone undertaking this apprenticeship that doesn’t already have Level 2 English and maths qualifications will be supported to achieve them during the programme, prior to taking their end point assessment. Specialist staff are on hand to help guide and support apprentices through this requirement if needed.
