Salford City College Group is preparing to celebrate Green Week in 2024. This celebration showcases the College's commitment to sustainability, and each day of the week will highlight different aspects of this agenda. Green Week aims to inspire our wider college community to adopt sustainable practices, both in college and at home, to make a positive impact on the environment. Let's work together to spread awareness about Green Week 2024 and emphasise the importance of sustainability....
Green Eating Monday...
On Monday, we will raise awareness of the importance of "Green Eating" at the college. To support this initiative, the canteens will provide "Green Menus," and students and staff who bring their own refillable cup will receive a 10% discount on hot drinks. The Glasshouse Restaurant and Bakery will also participate in Green Week by offering a week-long, green-inspired menu. During Green Eating Monday, students are encouraged to eat healthy and participate in designing and consuming green, healthy meals....
Travel Green Tuesday...
On Tuesday, we have many activities planned to help us learn how to reduce our carbon footprint while travelling to and from college. We will also be holding an inter-college competition to see which of our five colleges can save the most miles by walking, cycling, using public transport or carpooling to get to college. The aim of Tuesday is to encourage us all to make more environmentally friendly transportation choices, decrease our carbon footprint, and consider the impact of fuel pollution on our environment. Additionally, our Industry Partner, RRG Group will be visiting the College to demonstrate the latest in electric vehicle technology....
Waste Not Wednesday...
Wednesday is an important day for our college community, as we will be focusing on the significance of recycling and reducing waste. Students and staff will learn more about the waste management process at the College with B&M, our waste management partner. We will also provide an opportunity for our college community to participate in our 'swish' clothing initiative and book swap by donating their unwanted clothes and books. To show our care for the local community, students will also participate in 'green litter picks'. Additionally, we will be promoting our "think before you print" initiative throughout the week to encourage everyone to save as many trees as possible....
Turn Off Thursday...
On Thursday, our college community will pledge our commitment to reducing energy consumption and launch the SCC Group Heat Decarbonisation Plan....
For Nature Friday...
Friday is the final day of Green Week 2024. We will spend the day discussing the week's efforts, reflecting on our renewed commitment to sustainability, participating in nature walks at Eccles Sixth Form College and Pendleton Sixth Form College, and planting trees to support our environment.
