Salford students are a cut above

Students from Worsley College have been recognised as the best in Greater Manchester after achieving outstanding success at the GM Skills 2026 competition.

Competing against learners from colleges across the region, Worsley College students excelled in the Hair and Beauty categories, securing five first-place awards and helping the college achieve the prestigious Best Overall College title.

Among the winners, Violet Jones claimed first place in Entry Level Hair, while Jess Bates-Nutsy took the top spot in Level 1 Hair. In the beauty categories, Ruby Matthews won Entry Level Beauty, and Jess Moran secured first place in Level 1 Beauty. Amelia Morris also impressed judges, earning second place in the highly competitive Level 3 Hairdressing category.

The competition challenged students to complete industry-standard tasks under pressure, demonstrating their technical skills, creativity and professionalism in front of expert judges from across the sector.

Jess Moran, Level 2 Beauty student, said:

“There was a lot of pressure on the day, but our tutors prepared us really well. To come away with first place and help Worsley College win Best Overall College is an incredible feeling.

Winning the GM Skills Beauty Competition has given me so much confidence in my abilities and shown me how much I have developed during my course.

I have loved every aspect of studying Beauty Therapy at Worsley College, and this achievement has made all of the hard work worthwhile.”
