Salford College Fashion, Hair and Makeup Students Celebrate Talent at This Year’s Creative Showcase at FutureSkills Campus MediaCityUK
This year’s Creative Showcase at FutureSkills Campus celebrated the outstanding work, talent and dedication of SCC adult Fashion, Hair and Makeup students in front of family members, friends, staff and industry professionals.
The Fashion department would like to thank Celia Thornley, Head of Skills and Training at the UK Fashion & Textile Association (UKFT), for officially opening the fashion show and discussing the importance of industry opportunities, technical skills development and creative pathways within the fashion sector.
Students from Levels 1, 2 and 3 Fashion courses then showcased their individuality, skills and flair through a diverse mix of collections and catwalk presentations, including Level 1 skirt designs, Level 2 vibrant Pop Art inspired outfits, and Level 3 Met Gala dresses, highlighting the creativity, technical ability and dedication of the adult fashion students involved.

Elsie (4 years old) and Daisy (5 years old) brought huge smiles to the audience as they modelled throughout the evening. Although shy at first, they soon grew in confidence on the catwalk, showing their cute personalities and completely stealing the show with their enthusiasm and charm. Elsie had even drawn and modelled her own design as part of the event — Vivienne Westwood watch out!

The catwalk event gave participants valuable experience of working within a live fashion show environment, including rehearsals, backstage coordination, styling, production, and working collaboratively alongside agency professional models and SCC Hair and Makeup staff and students.
Level 2 Fashion student Rasta Saeedi said:
“This was my first experience exploring Pop Art and fashion design in this playful style. During the course I learned a lot about colour, pattern construction and creative design. I never thought I would be able to create a dress like this, but with the support, encouragement and guidance I was given, I achieved something I am really proud of and even had the opportunity to model my own dress on the catwalk. It felt like a dream come true for me.”
Alongside the fashion show, Level 1, 2 adults and 3 FE Hair and Makeup students, BA (Hons) Media Make-up and FD Makeup students showcased their skills and artistic ability through professional styling, makeup looks, practical demonstrations and creative display stands presented throughout the event. The showcase provided a valuable opportunity for students to build their portfolios, present their work to industry specialists and collaborate with Fashion students in producing hair and makeup looks that complemented the outfits showcased on the catwalk.
Karen Monaghan, Fashion Tutor at Salford College, said:
“I am incredibly proud of all of the students involved in this year’s event and truly amazed by the amount of hard work, dedication and talent shown across Fashion, Hair and Makeup. The teamwork and support throughout the evening was fantastic to see, with students, staff, volunteers and technical teams all working together to help bring the fashion show to life. It was wonderful watching students confidently present their final outcomes within such a positive environment, and I would also like to thank everyone who worked so hard to help make the event such a success.”
Congratulations to everyone involved.
