Pendleton 2-2 Carmel College

Phil Sunga’s last-gasp goal salvaged Pendleton a 2-2 draw against Carmel College

Pendleton were on the cusp of a first home League defeat since February 2024 until Phil Sunga squeezed the ball past the Carmel College goalkeeper with Pendleton's 28th and final attempt of an extraordinary second half. Hammad Mustapha, fired a warning when he volleyed wide after being located by Danni Ogbeide - but Carmel College did not listen. Isaac Tutuma skipped inside off the right and released Phil Sunga, who raced clear through on goal and prodded past the opposition goalkeeper in the ninth minute. Shortly afterwards, Oliver Farrell whipped in a free-kick which hit the outside of the post. Carmel College levelled with their first shot in the 22nd minute. The opposition forward pulled the ball back to his teammate after a quickly-taken free-kick and the Carmel College player curled a glorious effort into the top-right corner. Carmel College then took the lead in first-half added time when the opposition defender rose highest to crash in a header at the far post, with their set-piece prowess again paying dividends. Before long, the incessant pressure from Pendleton College had arrived. Carmel College defended heroically, while a superb stop from the opposition goalkeeper kept out a mesmeric leap and header from Emmanuel Kisula. Chance and after chance after chance came and went, with the Carmel College surviving each time. That was until the very final seconds, when Isaac White’s shot rebounded for Phil Sunga to plunder the equaliser.
