Tom Glynn-Carney, a former Pendleton Sixth Form College student plays Aegon Targaryen II in “House of the Dragon,” the successful prequel of Game of Thrones.

House of the Dragon is an independent prequel to Game of Thrones and is the second show in the franchise, created by George R.R. Martin and Ryan Condal for HBO.

Based on parts of the novel Fire & Blood, the series is set about 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones, 172 years before the birth of Daenerys Targaryen.

The season 1 finale was watched by 9.3 million people across the world on the 24th October; and season 2 has already been confirmed and is expected to air in 2024.

As Aegon, Tom has to play a difficult character for the audience to root for throughout the show. However, Glynn-Carney understands the nuances that come with playing a difficult character.

In an interview about playing such a difficult character with The Hollywood Reporter, he said Aegon wasn’t an “out-and-out psychopath.”

“He’s much more complex. His decisions are due to insecurities and confusion and range. He’s just bitterly confused and mentally unwell,” Tom talking to the outlet.

Glynn-Carney studied Musical Theatre at Pendleton Sixth Form College and received a triple distinction star in performing arts, the highest possible grades for a vocational qualification. He then attended the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, where he studied acting. While studying, he participated in professional stage adaptations of Peter Pan and Macbeth.
