If you decide to study hairdressing, depending on your level, the types of skills you will cover will include:

  • Shampooing and conditioning hair
  • Styling and dressing hair
  • Colouring hair
  • Perming and cutting techniques
  • Client consultation and reception duties

Progression

Many students gain employment as a hairdresser or beauty therapist in salons, leisure centres and on cruise ships, or become self-employed. Some students choose to undertake further study in areas such as salon management or teaching. Media make-up students who successfully complete this course may choose to progress onto other make-up, prosthetics and animatronics techniques. Other students may choose to seek employment within the beauty, fashion, media or photographic industries.

Entry Requirements

Level 1 Vocational Courses: Students are required to have grade 1s/2s at GCSE. Level 2 Vocational Course: Students are required to have progressed from Level 1. We will also consider students that have relevant qualifications and work experience, with a strong GCSE profile. Level 3 Vocational Courses: Students are required to have progressed from Level 2. Additional Information: For Level 2 Vocational Courses, we will consider 2 Vocationals, ideally one to be in a related subject.
