Painters and Decorators operate in domestic and commercial properties, and undertake the decoration and protection of buildings. Properties include houses, schools, offices, hospitals, factories and construction sites. Working internally or externally, they work individually and/or as part of a team, applying water-borne and/or solvent-borne paint coatings and wall coverings.

Assessment

Apprentices will attend college on a day release basis at City Skills, Lissadel Street, M6 6AP. Both theory and practical sessions will be undertaken, where the technical knowledge and skills aligned to painting and decorating will be developed.

End Point Assessment

The end-point assessment is synoptic and takes place at the end of the apprentice’s learning and development. The requirement is that the end-point assessment is completed within three months from the start of the end point assessment period. The end point assessment is made up of the following components:

  • A multiple choice test
  • A practical assessment with questions
  • An interview underpinned by a portfolio of evidence

Entry Requirements

Each organisation will have their own entry requirements, and must be able to provide opportunities to work towards this apprenticeship as part of the job role.

Apprentices require a minimum of Level 1 English and maths for this programme. Apprentices aged 16-18 who have not achieved Level 2 maths and English, prior to End Point Assessment will be required to undertake Functional Skills Assessments. For Apprentices aged 19+ maths and English are optional – to be agreed at the start of programme.
