Construction Site Engineering Technician Level 4

They are associated with the dimensional control of engineering solutions on construction projects, and are based on sites with occasional time in offices.

The main duties of a Construction Site Engineering Technician include dimensional control of projects, assisting design teams with civil engineering solutions, supervision of specialist contractors, contributing to the control of health and safety, recording, control and reporting of progress, contributing the minimisation of environmental impact, and controlling the quality of work.

This apprenticeship standard also includes a Level 4 HNC in Construction and the Built Environment (Civil Engineering).

Assessment

Apprentices will attend college on a day release basis at FutureSkills at MediaCityUK, Dakota Avenue, M50 2PU, where knowledge will be developed via taught sessions, online learning, and self-study. The HNC units to be delivered are:

• Construction technology
• Science and materials
• Construction practice and management
• Construction information
• Mathematics for construction
• Individual project
• Principles of alternative energy
• Principles of structural design

Portfolio of Evidence

A portfolio of evidence will be developed by the apprentice with the support of the assessor. This portfolio will confirm the knowledge which has been developed, the skills which are regularly applied in the workplace, and the behaviors demonstrated to be a successful construction site supervisor.

End Point Assessment

Apprentices are required to undertake end point assessment. This will be a set project brief, a written short report, a presentation and a structured interview to demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and behaviors developed over the programme.

Mandatory Qualifications

• Level 4 HNC in Construction and the Built Environment (Civil Engineering).

Entry Requirements

• Previous Level 3, construction-based apprenticeship. For example – Technical and Professional Advanced Level Apprenticeship or Civil Engineering Technician Apprenticeship Standard.
• English and maths – Level 2

Apprentices must be in suitable employment and have the opportunity to develop the required knowledge, skills and behaviors aligned to this apprenticeship standard. Assessments will be carried out with employers to determine suitability.
