Outline

This apprenticeship is for candidates who have successfully completed a Level 2 Carpentry & Joinery apprenticeship standard or framework, and wish to progress their career.

The main difference between a Level 2 Site Carpenter and a Level 3 Advanced Site Carpenter is that Advanced Site Carpenters are responsible for managing their own and other people’s work, as well as being required to complete complex and bespoke tasks.

An Advanced Site Carpenter will normally work on a building site or in domestic and commercial premises, preparing and fixing more complex building components. These tasks will include installing complex and often bespoke building components, including complex roof structures, staircases with turns, and high quality doors.

This apprenticeship standard also includes a Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Wood Occupations – Site Carpentry.

Assessment

Apprentices will attend college on a day release basis at City Skills, Lissadel Street, M6 6AP. Both theory and practical sessions will be undertaken, where the technical knowledge and skills aligned to advanced site carpentry will be developed.

Portfolio of Evidence

A portfolio of evidence will be developed by the apprentice with the support of the assessor. This portfolio will confirm the knowledge which has been developed, the skills which are regularly applied in the workplace, and the behaviors demonstrated to be a successful site carpenter.

Apprentices are required to undertake an end point assessment. This will be an online knowledge test, followed by a practical skills test to demonstrate the knowledge, skills and behaviors developed over the programme.

Mandatory Qualifications

  • Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Wood Occupations – Site Carpentry

Entry Requirements

  • Wood Occupations (site carpentry) Intermediate Apprenticeship Framework

Apprentices must be in suitable employment and have the opportunity to develop the required knowledge, skills, and behaviors aligned to this apprenticeship standard. Assessments will be carried out with employers to determine suitability.
