This course is delivered at the Life Sciences Department at Eccles Sixth Form College and The University Centre at Salford City College. The department are incredibly proud of their highly qualified teachers and outstanding industry standard facilities. The teaching team in the animal department are dual professionals with significant industry experience to complement their academic and teaching qualifications.
The Animal Centre provides outstanding facilities for all areas of the department. The brand new Animal Centre provides students with access to a six-acre outdoor facility stocked with over 250 animals across all major breeds. Inside there are small mammal rooms, aquaria, exotic animal rooms, science labs and a microbiology lab. A fully equipped veterinary nursing suite includes all of the technical equipment students find in practice.
These facilities have been designed to provide high quality, industry standard resources to prepare students practically whatever their specialism. Higher Education students have the opportunity to work with all of the animals at the center including Capybara, White Naped Cranes, Guanacos and the Alpacas.
Work experience is an essential and important element of both the level 4 and 5 programmes. Students have enjoyed work placements at a variety of employers such as the RSPCA, veterinary surgeries and at our partner college in France. Many of our students elect to complete their work experience at our Animal Centre and contribute to the day to day running of this amazing facility.
