Outline

The course is highly practical, combining acting training, performance projects and professional development across four key modules.

Module B – Acting Skills Development

Explore different acting styles, practitioners and contexts while developing your performance techniques through both scripted and devised work.

Module F – The Performing Arts Industry

Investigate how the performing arts industry works, including:

• Employment opportunities
• Freelance work
• Self-promotion
• Future developments within the industry

Module G – Personal Performing Arts Profile

Plan your own development as a performer, create a personal performance project and produce materials that can support self-promotion and professional networking.

Module H – Collaborative Performing Arts Project

Work collaboratively on a substantial performance project while exploring both creative and administrative roles.

You will contribute to and perform in a full-scale production, bringing together the practical and professional skills you have developed throughout the course.

Practical training and performance

Learning is centred on practical workshops, rehearsals and projects. You will create scripted and devised performance work, develop a personal project, explore professional practice and contribute to a large-scale collaborative project as part of a final showcase of your work.

Progression

The BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma in Performing Arts Practice (Acting) can support progression to drama school, university or employment within the performing arts industry.

Assessment

The course is assessed through 10 internally assessed units across Modules B, F, G and H.

Internal Assessment

There are no externally assessed units. Your work is internally assessed and externally verified.

You will receive Pass, Merit or Distinction grades for your assessed work.

Assessment allows you to demonstrate a range of practical and professional skills, including:

• Rehearsal and creative development
• Critical reflection and self-evaluation

Entry Requirements

Students will need a minimum of five grade 4s at GCSE including a grade 4 in GCSE English. GCSE Drama is not a requirement of the course but a passion for the subject is essential.Additional Information: We will consider 1 Vocational qualification in place of a GCSE as long as a grade 4 is achieved in English. Students are also required to pass an audition to study on this subject.
