Law (A-Level)

Outline

The course is divided across three papers.

Paper 1 – English Legal System and Criminal Law

You will explore how the English legal system operates alongside key principles of criminal law.

You will learn how legal rules are applied to realistic situations and develop the ability to identify the relevant facts, issues and possible legal outcomes.

Paper 2 – Law Making and Tort

You will examine how laws are created and developed, alongside the law of tort.

You will consider how legal responsibilities arise and apply legal principles to different scenarios.

Paper 3 – The Nature of Law and Contract Law

You will explore broader questions about the nature and purpose of law alongside the principles of contract law.

This will give you the opportunity to consider the relationship between law, justice, morality and society while applying legal rules to contractual situations.

Progression

A Level Law can support progression to university, apprenticeships and careers across law, government, public service and many other sectors.

Assessment

A Level Law is 100% examination assessed.

You will complete three two-hour examinations at the end of the second year.

Throughout the course, you will practise applying cases, legislation and legal principles to scenario-based questions, alongside developing structured written arguments and evaluating the effectiveness of different laws.

Entry Requirements

A combination of 5 Grade 4’s and 5’s or above at GCSE (including maths and English). * One Vocational Qualification in a related subject area will be considered in place of a GCSE. Subject Specific Entry Requirements: GCSE English Language at Grade 5.
