Art (A-Level)

Outline

The course is highly practical and project-based, giving you the opportunity to explore different creative disciplines before developing your own specialist interests.

Year 1

You will explore, experiment and develop creative ideas through practical workshops and project-based activities.

You will investigate how artists and designers generate ideas and communicate meaning while building your skills across 2D, 3D and 4D creative practices.

Year 2

You will develop greater independence and confidence within one or more chosen creative disciplines.

Building on your first year, you will undertake more ambitious projects, explore specialist techniques and refine your personal creative interests.

Through research, experimentation and problem-solving, you will strengthen your technical skills and professional practice while responding to challenging creative live briefs and working collaboratively with the local community.

Enrichment opportunities

Your creative development will extend beyond the classroom through drawing and research visits to galleries, museums and cultural venues.

These experiences give you opportunities to experience art and creative practice first-hand while gathering inspiration and research for your own work.

Progression

Vocational Art provides a strong foundation for progression into higher education, apprenticeships and employment within the UK's creative industries.

Fine Art and Contemporary Practice

You could progress towards careers including:

Beyond Fine Art

The skills developed on the course can also lead to opportunities beyond traditional Fine Art pathways.

For example, you could progress towards Interior Design, where creative thinking, visual communication, research and project development skills can be used to transform spaces.

Entry Requirements

A combination of 5 Grade 4’s and 5’s or above at GCSE (including maths and English). * One Vocational Qualification in a related subject area will be considered in place of a GCSE. Subject Specific Entry Requirements: A creative GCSE subject at Grade 4 or above. Alternatively, a creative portfolio of three pieces to discuss at enrolment.
