Students at Salford City College Group are always striving to play an active role in shaping the future of young people. One of our Sport and Uniformed Protective Services students at Eccles Sixth Form College, Jack Greenhalgh, is proving this in an incredible way—and his efforts have been recognised by the I Love Manchester Awards, in which he has been shortlisted for the category of Young Person of the Year.

As a core member of the Salford Young People’s Development Group, an initiative championed by the local charity the Salford Youth Zone, Jack has been a leader and a change-maker. Jack has spent the last two years building up the Salford Youth Zone, working actively to create a brighter future for himself and others. Youth Workers helped and supported Jack in his efforts, but more importantly, they believed in him. He was able to turn his life around, choosing a path to become a youth worker himself and support others in Salford to make the same changes.

The I Love Manchester Awards celebrates people, projects and culture in Greater Manchester, shining a spotlight on the communities across the area. The Awards are all about pride and inclusivity, and since they began in 2023 they have become one of the biggest events nights of the year in the city. Jack’s nomination is a recognition of his role in his local community.

From everyone at Salford City College, we want to extend a huge congratulations to Jack for being shortlisted and wish him all the best in the future.
