An introduction to textiles production – NEW FOR JANUARY 2023

The rejuvenated textiles industry is enjoying a renaissance, with manufacturers in fashion, interior design, health, automotive and other sectors requiring ethically sourced products to meet demand in a fast-growing industry.

Our Skills Bootcamps course has been co-designed with UK Fashion and Textiles Association (UKFT) and employer partners to give you the skills and knowledge you need to move into work or become a freelancer.

We will provide introductions to employers and a guaranteed interview for a job in your area!

Learn about how circular fashion, re-manufacturing, re-shoring are building a modern, dynamic sector with oodles of progression opportunities!

The course will suit you if you are:

  • An adult seeking entry to an innovative sector, embracing the circular economy and serving a range of product applications. Understanding manufacture as the foundation for a career
  • A returner to the industry
  • Seeking a career change
  • A “Hobbyist” sewer, wishing to monetise your knowledge by upskilling, progressing to work as a freelancer

The 11-week course features a blend of face-to-face skills development sessions, online video lessons and a UK Fashion & Textiles Association online learning platform (hard copy version available). You will learn industrial sewing techniques, alongside underpinning knowledge and skills relating to production sewing, including: quality, cost, speed, materials, machines, employability skills, workplace procedures and working relationships. The content transfers across specialist sector areas from garment making to interior textiles and industrial sewn products.

Session times are designed to be accessible around other responsibilities, such as childcare.

Our expert tutors and learner support team will ensure you are supported to stay on track, complete the course and move into work. You will leave the course with a UKFT certification which is industry approved and recognised by employers across the fashion and textiles sector.

Skills development sessions are hosted at our brand new, Sewing Skills Centre, situated within our Fashion and Textiles Department at Pendleton Sixth Form College in Salford.

You don’t need existing skills or experience to complete this course. Just a desire to learn new skills and knowledge to build a successful career in the textiles industry.

The course is available at no cost to you as a learner.

The CapitB Trust will provide travel and lunch expenses – to be confirmed.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Living or seeking work in Greater Manchester (Manchester, Salford, Bolton, Bury, Oldham, Rochdale, Stockport, Tameside, Trafford and Wigan.)
  • Aged 19+
  • You must have the right to work in the UK
  • An individual can only participate in one Skills Bootcamp per funding year
