Uniformed Protective Services (Vocational A-level)

This course will provide you with a realistic introduction to working in any of the uniformed public services careers. Working in the public sector in the police service, fi re service, or armed services requires discipline, commitment, and a desire to help others. You will fi nd the course stimulating and varied as it combines classroom-based study with outdoor activities and group work. You will also develop your personal eff ectiveness, decision making, teamwork, leadership, and communication skills. 

Outline

You will study a wide range of topics, such as leadership, team development, physical preparation, exercise and fi tness, outdoor adventurous activities, police powers, and public services employment. At advanced level, you will study more specialist units such as management of major incidents, custodial care of individuals, government policies, the legal system, and communication and technology.

Entry Requirements

For advanced Vocational courses, students are required to have five grade 4s at GCSE, which must include either English or mathematics.<br/> Intermediate level courses require four grade 3s at GCSE.

Progression

Many of our students go into employment within the public services industry or continue with their studies at university before pursuing careers in the police, fi re service or armed services. Students will also have the opportunity to progress onto our own HNC in Policing at Eccles Sixth Form College.
