Our UAL Level 4 Foundation Diploma in Art and Design provides a transition from A Levels or Level 3 Creative vocational courses to specialist art and design education in higher education. This enables students to make an informed decision when choosing degree courses or seeking employment within a related industry. The programme builds on students’ prior experience, linking skills already acquired with new ideas and challenges. It is delivered through a range of diverse and exciting problem solving workshops, by a range of specialist staff.The course is delivered by a range of specialist staff in order to grow your knowledge in preparation for the next step of your creative UAL Awarding Body- ( University of the Arts London)Students will:• Question preconceptions about art and design.• Explore a diverse range of materials and processes, through a variety of creative briefs and workshops. Disciplines include fine art, illustration, photography, fashion & textiles, ceramics, graphic design and 3D.• Work independently and collaboratively• Enrich and develop their own creative practice.• Prepare for higher education or employment.• Experience different ways of working• Link previous skills with new concepts.

Outline

Unit 1: Diagnostic Investigation into Creative Practice. Through a structured programme of activities and workshops, students will investigate a wide range of creative disciplines including fine art, illustration, photography, fashion & textiles, ceramics, graphic design and 3D. Students are encouraged to approach this unit with an open mind.Unit 3: Developing Specialist Practice. This unit will provide students with the opportunity to reflect on the knowledge, skills and practices they have developed in Unit 1 of the qualification and narrow down their practice, working more independently and taking responsibility for the direction of their work.Unit 4: Consolidating Practice. This unit aims to provide students with an opportunity to take control of their own learning and demonstrate their achievement by independently initiating, researching, completing and evaluating a project proposal and realisation within their chosen professional context.

Assessment

Coursework is assessed internally and externally moderated. During the course of the year, students receive regular written and feedback from tutor, in addition to being involved in peer assessment and group critiques.

Entry Requirements

5 x GCSEs at grade 4 or grade C, including Maths and EnglishOne A level or equivalent Level 3 qualifi¬cation, preferably in a relevant creative subject.
