Delivery model –Planned day release (twice monthly) one to one and group assessor support

Delivery Location – College for delivery of Cert H.E. workplace, community venues

Start date – 2nd April 2020, October 2020 and April 2021

Programme Summary

OPTION 2: Practitioner within the Community

You will understand the importance of and be skilled in, early intervention and safeguarding work. You will manage risk across the spectrum needs for children, young people and families. You may work in settings as diverse as family homes, youth centres, early years, youth justice, children's centres, educational settings and the community. You will play a significant role in working across agencies to improve outcomes. You may work with particular age groups, across the full age range or specifically with families. By supporting the confidence and skills of children, young people and families you will help them to overcome barriers and maximise their independence.

The Skills and knowledge requirements for the standard are based on statements typically expected from children, young people and families about the work the practitioner has undertaken with them.

Other expectations from this option are:

2a Forge networks with other agencies and the community, within a specific working context (e.g. early years, youth, youth justice, family work, special educational needs and disability etc.) and build sustainable solutions together.

What will you learn?

The Voice of the Child - Safeguarding Children and Young People - Lifespan Development - Working within Systems and Policies - Professional Judgements - Multi-Agency Working - Contemporary Social Issues - Developing Academic Skills.

How is it delivered and assessed?

Elements of learning can be face to face delivery and tutorials by visit or remote digital means, may be directed study & research. Learning in the workplace via practical demonstration, shadowing, instruction, or simulation or by way of courses and reflection.

Assessment methods may include written assignment, presentations, Q&A, work products, observation of practice, witness account, recognition of prior learning, professional discussion (this list is not exhaustive)

Mandatory qualifications
  • Certificate in Higher Education for Children Young People and Families practitioner
  • Functional Skill Level 2 in English (unless previously achieved)
  • Functional Skill Level 2 in mathematics (unless previously achieved)

End Point Assessment

  • Observation of practice
  • Competence interview – informed by a portfolio of evidence

Entry Requirements

English and Maths – level 1

Apprentices must be in suitable employment have the opportunity to develop all required knowledge, skills and behaviours aligned to this apprenticeship standard.
