Access to Professions in Nursing and Allied Health Care (Level 3)

The Access to Higher Education (HE) Diploma is a qualification which prepares students for study at degree level. If you would like to go to university but left school without the qualifications you need, then an Access to HE course will build that bridge.

On the Access to HE Health Professions Nursing course there are 20 units of study comprising 60 credits of work. There are 12 units of biology, 4 units of Health and 1 unit of psychology. You will also do 5 developmental units; two of which will improve your biology skills, another two will improve your study skills ready for university and one unit will take you through the process of applying for university. All units contain 3 credits.

Outline

The inclusive curriculum will focus on exploring core values that provides you with underpinning knowledge that relates to Health professions and Nursing through modules such as:
• Health Promotion
• Human Cardiovascular System
• Control of Infection
• Ethical Issues
• Communication skills
• Research skills

Examples of the content that you will cover in these modules and other are topics such as how the human body is made up and how these organs, muscles, tendons and tissues work, you will also look at lifestyle factors that will show how a diet can have an impact on your body systems as well as the infections and bacteria’s that transmit and lead to epidemics, and pandemics as well as the development units cover academic writing, presentation skills alongside research activities with of which will improve your improve your biology skills and study skills ready for university and one unit will take you through the process of applying for university

Progression

Successful completion of this qualification will allow you to progress to a wide range of courses at university such as degrees in nursing pathways such as mental health, adult and children’s nursing as well as degrees in many other health related subjects like paramedic science, OPD, occupation al therapist and many more.

Assessment

Each module will have an assignment that will clearly show the tasks and the structure/ method you will need to produce to meet the specific criteria.
Assessment dates will allow the allocation for assignments to be submitted in a timescale

You will be assessed by a range of practical activities such as presentation delivery and role play as well as timed assessments and written assignment work where leaflets, reports or information booklets will be included.
