Eccles Men’s Third’s Claim Three Points in Warrington
After a late push by the Warrington, Eccles Sixth Form score a late goal to take three points
Eccles men’s third team went into this weeks game knowing a win would guarantee them a top four finish in this years AOC Greater Manchester league. After a mixed season of results, due to many of the players having the opportunity to play up in the first and second team, the side could end on a high with a win away at Warrington. The game started in equal fashion, both sides showed spells of quality but it was a fairly scrappy affair with neither side testing the others keeper. It was third year student Josh Keelan who opened the scoring with a pin point free kick that beat the keeper form 25 yards out. The first half continued in fairly one sided fashion with the Eccles side dominating possession and full back Arron Cardall dominating the game down the left side.
The second half continued in the same fashion with Eccles pushing on for another goal to kill the game off, this turned out to be at the away sides detriment, Warrington caused a few problems on counter attacks after the Eccles side over committed numbers forward and the game was tied at 1-1. First year student Evan Hodson- Griffiths grew into the game as the minutes went on and threatened in behind the Warrington back line, after a few good saves by the keeper he calmly slotted home one of the chances and the game finished 2-1 to Eccles and fourth place was guaranteed.
