The University Centre at Salford City College are delighted to announce that this September they will be launching a brand new Higher National Diploma in Business.

This course, validated by Pearson, is designed to give students the business skills, knowledge and understanding they need to achieve high performance in the international business environment. It will provide students with the core skills required for a range of careers in business, including management, Human Resources, Marketing, Entrepreneurship, Accounting and Finance, while offering a balance between employability skills and essential knowledge.

Students will develop their understanding of the major impact that new digital technologies have on the business environment and examine the opportunities and challenges presented by a global marketplace. They will also be equipped with knowledge and understanding of culturally diverse organisations, cross-cultural issues, diversity and values, and to allow flexible study to meet local and specialist needs.

Students are also given opportunity to learn in a range of ways through collaboration with expert tutors, peers and industry clients taught in a ‘safe’ classroom environment. Some of the ways in which students can expect to learn are:

Tutorials and supervision: Teaching is developmentally positive, and tutors actively engage in reflection and guidance. Students are encouraged to set their own targets and challenge themselves which can be explored in their 1-2-1 discussions. Project based modules require students to conduct research, source contributors and reflect on work in progress and outcomes within tutorials.

Independent and guided learning: Content is delivered adhering to Visual, Audio and Kinesthetic learners and more traditional lectures embed audio-visuals, guided handouts and activities.

Peer-to Peer and teamwork: Each unit embeds peer learning and class discussion, to enable students to develop their social skills and subject knowledge.

Group and individual projects : Assessment methods promote both individual research and group project learning.

Online learning:  The University Centre VLE resources are utilised to enhance independent learning and support taught lectures. Students are encouraged to access the resources for lecture prep and assessment tasks.

At the end of the course, students will have reflected on the increasing need for high quality professional and technical education at levels 4 and 5. This will provide students with a clear line of sight to employment and to a degree at level 6 if they choose.
