2nd December 2020

This week Textile and Fashion Level 3 students at Pendleton Sixth Form College exhibited their latest work. The exhibition was the result of the students’ first project the year.

Having come from a traditional GCSE Art background, some of the students had never picked up a needle or used a sewing machine before. The first project was a chance for all the students to learn the basics and develop their existing skills.

“All the outcomes produced were highly skilled and creative, reflecting the context of the project.”

Nicola Worthington, Teacher of Textiles and Creative Arts

The theme for their latest project was ‘surfaces and structures’. The aim of the project was to research broadly around the theme, considering historical and contemporary artists and designers to inspire them in their practical work.

Students were also encouraged to explore a deeper context, considering ethical and environmental issues. Nicola added: “The students responded with a sketchbook of work and a final dress outcome. Some student’s chose to focus on the surface of the dress and dyed, printed, or painted it appropriately. Whereas some students focused on the structure and silhouette of the garment and responded with fabric manipulation.”
