Fairtrade Fortnight at Salford City College
Staff and students at Salford City College have spent the past two weeks celebrating Fairtrade Fortnight, with events, sales of Fairtrade jewellery, quizes and more being hosted across the college’s City, Eccles, Pendleton and Walkden Sixth Form Centres.
The college also hosted inter-college centre volleyball and football tournaments which saw mixed teams from each of the four sixth form centres compete against each other for bragging rights over their peers!
Thalia Bell, Assistant Principal, said “The Fairtrade Fortnight activites have been excellent across all of our college centres; the students have really supported the cause and got involved with the spirit of the celebrations. It is important that we highlight issues such as Fairtrade and ethical produce to our students and make them aware of how we can help people in other parts of the world by supporting them through the products that we produce.”
Recognised as Fairtrade since 2007, the college is passionate about supporting Fairtrade businesses and stocks many Fairtrade and ethical products in an attempt to encourage students to associate buying Fairtrade as ‘the norm’.
