Community Learning courses are held across the City of Salford each term for residents aged 19 or over, who have been out of education for a long time and want a stepping stone to possible future employment, volunteering or training.

Mostly aimed at beginners, they offer a relaxed introduction to a wide range of skill areas, from maths, English and IT through to health and social care, counselling, criminology, customer service, finding a job, and ‘Look Good, Feel Good’, to name but a few. IT courses are held in libraries citywide and aim to equip adults of all ages who missed out on the digital revolution with the basic skills needed to participate with confidence in the digital society, which is so important for everything from paying your council tax online, to keeping in touch virtually with friends and family.

Most courses run once a week for 8-10 sessions, some tasters and intensive courses are shorter and a few courses run in the evening. All of our friendly, welcoming tutors are specialists in their subject area, and experienced in teaching adult students. Courses are free to participants, and there are no end-of-course exams. We really hope that our students will catch the ‘learning bug’ and want to continue to the next level or accredited courses. Tutors will advise on possible progression routes at the end of the courses.

New courses and titles are added throughout the year, but in general, programmes start at or near the beginning of each academic term. Our partners’ details are listed below, along with an idea of their specialist delivery areas, so if you are interested in a particular type of course and want to know if there will be one near you from September, just get in touch with them for more information.
