Motor vehicle apprenticeships get into gear with Trinity
18 July 2012
Trinity Business Training has revved up its involvement in the motor vehicle sector, by strengthening its links with two of the city’s major industry players - Equipe and Salford Van Hire.
A family-run business with over three decades of hands-on, proven experience in the automotive industry, Equipe is the North West’s leading independent tyre & autocare specialist. Led by Operations Director, Rob Warburton, Equipe boasts eight branches located throughout the North West including Astley, Pendlebury, Eccles, Bolton and Tyldesley, all offering a combination of state-of-the-art equipment, traditional service values and a friendly, personal touch.
With branches in Manchester and Leeds, Salford Van Hire is one of the UK’s most prominent vehicle rental companies. For more than 40 years, its big orange trucks have been an almost ubiquitous sight on the region’s roads and motorways. What’s more, the company is one of the biggest single purchasers of commercial vehicles in the country, as well as owning one of the UK’s large contract hire fleets, with a host of blue-chip names, including some of the biggest companies in third-party logistics, all operating Salford Van Hire vehicles.
Overseen by Skills Training Officer, Paul Skorski - a man with a well-established industry pedigree - Trinity is now driving its motor vehicle apprenticeships, with an agreement to provide Level 2 & 3 VCQs (Vocational Competence Qualifications), in association with Equipe and Salford Van Hire. This is to follow up the highly successful work Paul has done in helping ambitious local people to secure gainful, sustained employment with both companies through apprenticeships.
“Over my many years in the industry,” says Paul, “I’ve built solid partnerships with both Equipe and Salford Van Hire, helping to secure apprenticeships for committed young individuals, and give them a chance to gain employment with two of the city’s major automotive companies.
“On recent visits to both companies,” continues Paul, “I was encouraged to find that many of the people I helped give a start to, were still in employment, with the majority of them working towards additional vocational qualifications to help further their careers. What we’re now looking to do at Trinity, is strengthen our motor vehicle offering with the provision of high quality VCQ courses that cover a core range of disciplines.”
The new courses are Level 2 & 3 diplomas in Light Vehicle Maintenance & Repair, in conjunction with both Salford Van Hire and Equipe, and Level 2 Diploma in Vehicle Fitting, in sole association with Equipe. “These will open up clear work opportunities for the people involved,” concludes Paul, “and I look forward to reviewing the outcomes in the near future.”
