Student Honoured At Islam Television Channel Awards

Bolton student recognised as positive role model for young British Muslims

Raihazah Malek, who is currently reading Natural Sciences at Cambridge University, has recently been awarded the Gold Award for Outstanding Achievements in A-Levels at the Islam Channel ILM Day awards.

The Ilm Day Awards, organised by the Islam Channel in association with Islamic Help charity and the Dawah Project, aims to recognise and nurture exceptional young Muslim achievers. Young people are nominated via the Islam Channel website and winners were invited to a televised awards ceremony in January.

Raihazah, who gained 5 A grades in her A-Levels in Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics/Further Maths and Physics at Salford City College, Pendleton Centre was presented her award by Karen Buck MP and had the opportunity to thank her family friends and teachers in an acceptance speech.

The former Haywood School student achieved exceptional GCSE results and completed a 6-year Alimah course in Bolton. She has been involved with a number of projects including ‘The Analyst Competition’ organised by the Royal Society of Chemistry at Buckingham Palace. Being a part-time mentor for children at a local Mosque, Raihazah also spent much of her time helping her local community.

Imran Kotwal, Tutor Chaplain at Salford City College, said “Raihazah is devout in her faith and helped me run the Islamic Society at the college. She also took responsibility to provide support to Muslim female learners, alongside studying for her excellent A-Level results.”
