Centre of Excellence for Media, Media Make-Up, IT, Coding & Games Design, Music Technology & Performance, Accountancy and Professional Studies.
FutureSkills consists of two state of the art centres next door to each other based in the heart of MediaCityUK – a leading international hub for the creative and digital sectors. The centre offers specialist courses in Media, Media Make-Up, IT, Coding & Games Design, Music Technology & Performance, Accountancy and Professional Studies, plus a wide range of associated apprenticeships.
Anyone visiting FutureSkills will be impressed with the range of facilities and equipment that we have, which all support students within their studies. The centre offers courses for school leavers, Higher Education courses and short professional qualifications.
The courses offered are designed to give students the opportunity to progress directly into employment, as well as university or other training routes. The provision offered is unique and gives students multiple opportunities to work closely with employers and gain real work experience outcomes.
MediaCityUK is a vibrant place in which to study, live and socialise. Home to major BBC and ITV departments, MediaCityUK is recognised as one of the most innovative developments in Britain. Those studying at MediaCityUK love the atmosphere, range of facilities, cafes, restaurants, shops and world class events that take place – it really is an exciting place to be a part of. Many students get the opportunity to be involved in activities at MediaCityUK including performing at award winning restaurant Damson and The Dock Bar for themed evenings.
FutureSkills 3 is planned to open in September 2016, and this will further add to the creative offer.
What makes FutureSkills unique is the Academy offer – as part of an Academy you will get the opportunity to work with employers, and even have a 6-week paid internship depending on the course, plus a wealth of additional training opportunities. The centre is host to dozens of guest speakers who are keen to come and work with our students and share their industry knowledge. Our Academies are designed to give the hands-on training with professional standard equipment in order to give you the best possible preparation for the world of employment.
Creative Music & Media Academy
Working in partnership with Roland, one of the world’s largest musical instrument manufacturers, we will provide students with a range of opportunities associated with a world-leading organisation. Specialist training programmes, practice with the latest technology, and masterclasses delivered by product specialists will be available to all students.
Young Professionals Academy
This Academy is for students who have the potential to excel in the areas of business management, accounting and financial services. The opportunity to complete internships in prestigious local businesses is a key element to this Academy. Students on the course study AAT Level 2 Certificate in Accounting in the first year, Level 3 Diploma in Accounting in the second year and. Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma in Business. Supportive employers include Lloyds Banking Group, ITV, RBS, Peel Media and accounting companies BDO, Baker Tilly and Grant Thornton.
Career Academy in Professional Media
The brand new Career Academy in Professional Media will provide students with unique opportunities to work with companies from the media sector. The Academy took on its first students in September 2015, and has been set up in conjunction with Career Ready- a national programme that links students to the world of work.
