Certificate For IT Users (E-Citizen) Entry Level 3

Want to learn how to use the Internet and email but have little or no experience of how to use a computer? Then this course is for you - it begins with how to switch on a computer and use a mouse to how write and send emails and to shopping online.

ECDL Part 1

ECDL stands for European Computer Driving Licence. It is a level Two course, which gives a wide knowledge of how some of the packages in the Microsoft Suite can be used. The completed course also provides the student with IT users certificates at levels one and two.

These are provided by BCS on completion of the ECDL qualification and were introduced to allow education to fund the courses. No extra work is required by the student to gain these certificates. The course involves up to forty five weeks, at two hours a week of tuition in order to gain the required eight modules. Completed exams will be passed to the course leader for checking within 2 weeks of exams being taken and stored.

In order for the student to gain an ECDL certificate eight units need to be achieved, Two of which; theory of the computer and theory of the legal and health and safety issues, are externally marked. Other units are; word processing, spreadsheets, communications, databases, file management and presentations.

Entry Level Introduction To Computers SFL

Never done computers before? Only a little bit of experience? This course is about giving people the skills that they need to live their everyday lives in an ever-changing technological environment. This is the first step! You can learn to do things that you want and need to do in a real life situation. The full name of this course is ICT Skills for Life Entry Level. ICT is Information and Communication Technology and the Entry level includes Internet and e-mail, Word Processing, Introduction to Spreadsheets, as well as Health and Safety. In addition, people will become aware of the different issues surrounding computer use. The course is offered at 3 levels: Entry 1 requires the ability to recognise and understand issues, whereas at Entry 3, learners will be challenged to work independently to create documents and send e-mails.

Introduction to Web Design with Literacy and Numeracy

This course popular course is for those who want to learn the basics of web design or maybe improve on their current skills.

Students on this course will learn the fundamentals of Web Standards website design. There will be a strong influence on writing semantic HTML mark-up while utilising CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) as the presentation layer for all design elements.

The aim of this course is to demonstrate the power of CSS; provide a structured approach to writing advanced code for style and positioning and to demonstrate the importance of website optimisation.

Students will be able to work at their own pace throughout the course with support and advice from the tutor and involvement from other students on the course.

As part of this course you will be required to take a literacy and numeracy assessment.

Level 1/2 Computers SFL

This course is part of the new Skills for Life ICT and is aimed at helping learners to turn their computer knowledge into real life experiences. It is part of the latest thinking about learning computers. You can come and gain the skills you want to learn for real life, not just to pass an exam. You will be expected to create documents, spreadsheets, compare and contrast different information sources and use e-mail. The final module will allow you to gain some first experiences of web design or digital images (including your own photos), unless you want to gain the knowledge of databases that is so important in the workplace.

Photoshop

Photoshop can be used to edit digital images and photographs and would be suitable for developing skills in design and manipulating digital photographs. It is used widely in graphic design, advertising industries and is the industry standard image manipulation software.

The first part of the course allows the student to experience and develop techniques and skills in the software package producing a number of design and photographic products through a set of exercises .

The second part of the course allows the student to develop a design brief and produce their own piece of individual work which will utilise the skills and knowledge that they have gained on the course.

The final evening you will look at work produced, and is an opportunity for students to see what others have achieved.
