Entry to Professions in Science

This is a Level 2 course in Science where you will be building your skills and knowledge in science. Upon successful completion of this course, you may progress to our Level 3 Access to HE programmes and from there, eventually to HE study in areas such as biology, chemistry, forensic science, radiography, biomedical sciences, health sciences, sport sciences, other healthcare related courses and a range of academic courses.

Outline

You will study two qualifications:

BTEC Level 2 Award in Applied Science
This comprises four units of study including one examined unit. This qualification covers physics, chemistry and biology content. The course will contain a mixture of classroom learning and assessed practical work to apply scientific concepts.

GCSE Chemistry
This is an examined qualification covering chemistry content at Level 2. The focus is on classroom based learning with some practical work to support the learning of chemical principles. Many HE courses in science and healthcare will require at least a grade C or grade 4 or 5 in a science subject at GCSE level.

Assessment

The BTEC Level 2 Award is assessed through one external examination and a series of internally marked coursework set throughout the year. GCSE Chemistry is assessed by external examination.
