Access to Professions in Humanities and Social Sciences

Access courses are equivalent to three A-Levels. The course lasts for one year and on completion students typically go directly to university.

Modules on this pathway include:
• Psychological Perspectives
• Aggression
• Nature/Nurture
• Child Protection
• Criminology
• Social Work
• Mental Health


In addition to the above modules, you will study a number of core skills units which will enable you to develop the academic skills necessary for studying on the Access course and beyond.

Progression

This pathway is designed for progression onto a diversity of degree courses e.g. Social Work, Psychology, Education, Criminology, Sociology, Law, Counselling and various combined degree courses.

The Access course provides an excellent academic foundation and the majority of students’ progress to a range of university courses. During your time on the Access course, there will be opportunities to speak to admissions tutors from a variety of universities and you need to arrange to attend open days and taster classes which will help you to research your chosen career route in more depth.

Assessment

In order to achieve the Diploma you must achieve 60 Level 3 credits in a number of modules. You will be continuously assessed via a range of methods which include producing essays, presentations, timed assessments and laboratory work.
