Access to Professions in Nursing and Allied Healthcare Professions

Access courses are equivalent to three A-Levels. The course lasts for one year and on completion students typically go directly to a HE course.

Outline

Units on this pathway include:
• Health Sciences
• Health Studies
• Psychology
• The Cardiovascular System
• Organisation of the Body
• Sexual Health in the UK
• Abnormality and Mental Health
• Health Promotion

In addition to the above units, you will study a number of core skills units which will enable you to develop the academic skills necessary for studying on the Access to HE course and beyond.

Progression

Many students go on to succeed at university and beyond, with a large number of students pursuing new careers in a variety of directions such as nursing degrees and a range of health related careers.

Universities value the commitment, experience and motivation that students bring, but success depends on a variety of factors, including limited course places e.g. Midwifery and Physiotherapy, achievement of required grades, regular attendance on the Access course, standard of UCAS application and interview at university.

Assessment

In order to achieve the qualification you must achieve 60 Level 3 credits in a number of modules. You will be continuously assessed via a range of methods which include producing essays, presentations, timed assessments and laboratory work.
