Access to Professions in Midwifery
Midwives provide support and care to pregnant women, their partners and families, throughout the pregnancy continuum. Midwives need to have excellent communication skills, have impeccable time management skills; be
organised and approachable. The Access to Midwifery course is academically rigorous and designed for adult students wishing to pursue HE and careers in midwifery.
The modules include 45 credits graded and 15 credits ungraded modules:
- Human Biology
In addition to the above units, you will also study a number of core skills units which will enable you to develop the academic skills necessary for studying on the Access to HE course and beyond.
This course provides an excellent academic foundation and the majority of students’ progress to a range of HE courses.
Colleges and universities value the commitment, experience and motivation that adult students bring, but success depends on a variety of factors – including limited course places on midwifery programmes – achievement of required grades, regular attendance on this course, standard of UCAS application and interview at university.
You will be assessed through a variety of methods. These will include written assignments, tests, laboratory practical work and presentations. The assessments take place throughout the course.
