No Barriers to Learning

As part of our aim to break down barriers to learning, we offer courses for everyone.

Access Courses

Access to Higher Education courses do exactly as they say on the tin, help adult students access university courses. If your heart is set on going to university but you don’t have the qualifications, then an access course is for you.

An access course is equivalent to three A-levels and typically lasts one year. This makes them perfect for anyone who might have had time off from education or who left education without the usual qualifications for university access, such as A-levels or a BTEC.

Many access students go on to succeed at university and beyond, with a large number of students pursuing new careers in a variety of directions.

Our courses range from access to professions in science, creative writing, forensics, art, business, midwifery and construction, to name just some of what we offer.

Josh Ensor
Access to Professions in Engineering

“The Access Course has given me the self–confidence to apply to universities, whilst also providing other essential skills such as writing techniques, time management and mathematics. I have applied to study at the University of Leeds, a Russell Group University, to study physics with astrophysics. My ultimate goal is to work within the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).”

Entry to Access

Think an access course might be for you but don’t have your level 2 qualifications such as GCSEs? Don’t worry, we also do Entry to Access courses that will get you where you need to be.

ESOL, English for Speakers of Other Languages

One major barrier many face is that English is not their first language, and their level of English may be basic, stopping them from progressing with their career or studies, in the UK.

But, we don’t feel this should stop someone from excelling, which is why we offer ESOL courses at a range of levels, right down to pre-entry.

Many of our former ESOL students have gone on to excel after completing our courses, going on to study at prestigious universities and into lucrative industries.

GCSE and Functional Skills

English and maths are considered to be the foundations of education and training in the UK, and Level 2 in these subjects is considered a pre-requisite. That is why we offer them, up to level 2, as a FREE course to all adults who haven’t previously gained a GCSE or achieved a grade D or less.

Functional Skills courses are available across a number of levels, so there will be a class to suit anyone’s needs. These courses will help you to build fundamental skills in the subject area, which are essential to find employment at any level and help you go on to study for a GCSE should you wish to.

We offer Functional Skills in ICT for those who need to learn the basics in computing for their career as well as maths and English, and also GCSE Biology.

Level 1 and 2 Courses

Level 1 and level 2 courses are equivalent to GCSEs. We offer a range of courses at this level including AAT, perfect for anyone looking to go into accounting or the financial industries. We also offer this level of courses in trades including plumbing, hairdressing and beauty therapy for those who may not have qualifications, but who would still like to get onto the career ladder.
