Pendleton Sixth Form College to host Tap Fest UK

12 February 2018

Pendleton Sixth Form College’s renowned Performing Arts Department will be hosting Tap Dance Festival UK between the 16th and 19th of February, for the second year running.

Elena-Rose Yenulevich, one of the organisers of Tap Dance Festival UK, said: “The college’s Centre of Excellence for Performing and Production Arts includes a vibrant and diverse dance provision, which is what makes it the perfect venue for our festival.”

The dance festival includes two full days of workshops, discussions and performances. On February 16, tap troupe ‘Apartment 33’ will open the event with a showcase to the public and students will close the event to the public on February 18 in ‘The stars of then and now’.

Tap Dance Festival UK is an internationally acclaimed event, led by global sensations in the dance genre. Headlining the event is Maud Arnold from ‘Syncopated Ladies’, New York City, and other members include Jo Scanlan from ‘Tap Attack’ and Tom Shilcock from ‘Can You Dance?’.

Throughout the four day festival, students from Pendleton Sixth Form College along with members of the public who wish to partake will be involved in workshops and sessions with industry leading dance professionals. Those in attendance will work closely with specialists to study and explore all aspects of tap, and will be given the opportunity to take part in a range of other workshops including commercial hip hop and musical theatre classes.

Elena continued: “Last year’s TDFUK saw great success at Pendleton. We had over 200 guests and participants over the weekend, many of which joined us from all corners of the world as far as Australia, New Zealand, USA, UAE, Cyprus, Germany, Ireland and all parts of the UK. Pendleton students and staff offered a warm welcome to their guests and that’s why we are back this year.

“Several Pendleton Performing Arts students were also offered Scholarships to attend DC Tap Fest 2017. Each recipient was granted the opportunity to attend DC Tap Fest on a full tuition scholarship worth over $1000 per student. Each student travelled to the US were they were hosted by a local families and had an opportunity to spend time associating with students from across North and South America, Europe and Asia, and have made lifelong friendships and international connections.”
