John Spindler – Principal / Chief Executive
John joined the College as CEO and Principal in April 2015. Prior to this he was Deputy Principal at another college in the north west and has many years of senior management experience in further education colleges, mainly in London. He began his career in the further education sector in 1989 as an economics lecturer. Outside of work John is a keen runner, having recently completed the Victoria Marathon in British Columbia, Canada.
Michael joined Salford City College as Deputy Principal in October 2015. He began his career in Further Education in 1997 as a Lecturer in Business Studies at Blackpool and The Fylde College, where he had previously been a student, and in 2004 moved into the Sixth Form sector, holding senior management posts at both Ashton and Oldham SFCs in Greater Manchester. Most recently Michael was Vice Principal (Curriculum and Quality) at Bradford College, one of the largest FE College’s in the country. In addition, he has been Chair of Governors at two Academies, one of which offered all-through provision for 3-18 year olds. These posts have given Michael the opportunity to gain a great deal of experience and skills across a wide range of educational provision. Michael’s main responsibility as Deputy Principal is to lead on all aspects of curriculum delivery, and his goal is simply to enable the staff of Salford City College to provide an outstanding learning experience for all our students.
Saf has worked in further education for seven years as a senior manager, prior to joining Salford City College in 2015. In the mid 1990’s he taught for a short period at the former Salford College. His main area of expertise centres on physical transformation having led major capital projects, estates and IT as well as work based learning. As VP for Development & Innovation, Saf is responsible for: developing the College’s digital capabilities to enhance teaching & learning and generate efficiencies; transforming the estate and IT capability to create outstanding facilities and learning resources; developing strategic relationships and alliances with employers to improve outcomes for students. Previously, Saf has been responsible for some groundbreaking initiatives in the voluntary and public sector across all aspects of regeneration, including business development and capacity building. He is very passionate about improving outcomes of young people – especially the disadvantaged.
Warren has worked within education since May 2006 when he joined the former Pendleton College as Personnel Manager and he became our HR Director for the merged college in February 2009. Warren has worked in HR since 1997, in various sectors and has a passion for organisational development. He is a member of various external HR groups and in addition to Human Resources Warren is also leads on Equality and Diversity across college enabling him to work with staff in all our centres on various issues and initiatives.
Tracy joined the College as the Director of Financial Operations in September 2016. She began her career as a Finance Apprentice at Tameside Metropolitan Borough Council. She has worked within the education sector for 16 years in various senior roles including an Executive Director of Finance role at another college in the North West and a Management Accountant at two large Universities. Responsibilities include leading, managing and overseeing the Finance and Management Information departments.
Rebekah Wilkins – Director of Marketing and Services to Learners
Rebekah has worked in education marketing, recruitment and services since 1999 and in a senior leadership role since 2009. Rebekah joined the former Pendleton College and then moved to the former Salford College before the merger in 2009. She is responsible for the marketing and services to learners functions across the group which looks after many areas of the students experience whilst at the college. Other areas of responsibility include student recruitment, delivery and growth of key areas of provision and leading on new initiatives and developments. Leading a team of nearly 100 staff, Rebekah is passionate about developing a team to provide the best service possible for all students.
