Michael Sheehan is a highly experienced educational leader with an exceptional record of outstanding achievement. Prior to joining Salford City College in July 2017, Michael brought about transformational change as the Principal of four Colleges – Pendleton, Runshaw, Riverside and Wigan and Leigh. He believes passionately in the power of education to transform the lives of individuals and communities.
Michael was educated at De La Salle College in Salford, Liverpool University and Manchester University. He has a keen interest in his church, in local history, playing football with his five grandsons and supporting Manchester United.
Charles joined the corporation in March 2017, having worked in a large US-led technology company as HR Director for the UK and Nordics, being a Board Director of the main UK company and subsidiary companies within the group. He has extensive HR experience in the project management and implementation of cross border acquisitions, divestitures, and complex restructuring programs, UK and European employment legislation and pensions management.
Jackie joined the Corporation as a Governor and Vice Chair in January 2009. She became Chair of the Corporation in 2013 and chairs the Strategy & Finance Committee. Jackie, a retired senior University manager and administrator, has extensive experience in senior governance roles in various public sector organisations concerned primarily with education and health. She has significant experience in chairing, managing and servicing committees, including in the primary and secondary schools area. Her strengths are in strategic and operational planning gained in the Higher Education sector, and providing a professional lay perspective on matters pertaining to the NHS.
Lindsay joined the Corporation in January 2009 as a Governor. She has extensive experience of working in the Further Education sector including senior leadership roles at college, regional and national level. Lindsay is a link governor at the college for Safeguarding matters and is Chair of the Standards Committee.
James joined the Corporation in March 2018. He holds a local directors role for a major high street bank and is very experienced in finance and leadership roles, currently running a team of 180 colleagues across Greater Manchester. James is heavily involved in the local community through various programmes, particularly digital education and financial literacy.
Sue has been an elected Staff Governor since 2009 and was re-elected in June 2014. She currently works as a team leader for the Apprenticeship Team at Salford City College.
Paul joined the Corporation in 2012 as a Governor. He is a Corporate lawyer and partner in a major law firm in Manchester. Paul has worked extensively in the FE and HE sectors and is highly experienced in general mergers and acquisitions and also specialises in the commercialisation of Intellectual Property in the Education Sector. Paul is also a former Chair of the Pro Manchester Group; a body representing the interests of professionals in Manchester. He is currently Chair of the Audit Committee.
Tony joined the Corporation in July 2014. He has extensive experience in retail management, including senior management roles involving Board representation at regional and national level.
Carole joined the Corporation in January 2009 as a Governor. She is a retired Professor and Dean of a Business Faculty (University of Salford) having worked in higher education for nearly 40 years. Carole is currently active in a number of other voluntary roles in the local community including being the Senior Circuit Steward for the Salford Methodist Circuit of nine churches.
Michael joined the Corporation as a governor in December 2015. He is an ambitious entrepreneur having successfully operated a number of his own businesses in diverse market sectors since 1990 and has been recognised for his entrepreneurial skills in the ‘Ernst and Young’ entrepreneur awards.
Councillor Lisa Stone
Councillor Stone joined the Corporation in March 2018 and has vast experience in strategic leadership and governance. She currently holds the position of Lead Member for Children and Young People, with political responsibility for the leadership, strategy and effectiveness of all local authority children’s services, including education and social care. She is also Chair of Salford Skills and Work Board and the Children and Young People’s Trust.
Quinn Phillips – Student Member
Quinn is currently in his second year of study. He has been elected as Chair/President of the Student Council Executive and is the Student Governor for the academic year 2017 – 2018.
Pat joined the Corporation in January 2009 as a Governor and is currently Vice Chair of the Corporation. Pat has extensive experience of working in the Education sector, at both FE and HE levels, including 20 years spent teaching and in senior management roles. Specialist areas include strategic management, child protection, dyslexia, equality diversity and inclusion and support for students. Pat is a link governor at the college for equality, diversity and inclusion matters and joint link governor for Safeguarding.
